Dental Examinations

Dental examinations help to diagnose disease before it becomes hazardous to your health. In addition, regular examinations can save you money by alleviating problems while they are small and before they become expensive to repair–or, in some cases, impossible; to repair. Your dental examinations generally include the following:

  • Oral cancer screening
  • Gum disease evaluation (including periodontal charting, if needed)
  • Visual examination of tooth decay- Examination of diagnostic x-rays to find cysts, tumors, invisible decay, and other problems not visible or apparent to the naked eye
  • Evaulation of the current status of restorations (fillings, crowns, etc.)

We cannot express enough how important it is to see your dentist regularly. Remember, preventing disease is always better than treating disease.

How Cleanings & Regular Hygiene Visits Can Ensure Good Health

You may have wondered why the title of this article didn’t say ‘oral health’ instead of ‘good health’. That’s because good oral health is actually essential to overall well-being. Here at the Calabasas Dental Institute our general dentistry practice is all about educating you so you can enjoy perfect oral health that contributes to your entire body feeling its best.

It’s easy to get started with great oral hygiene habits. Brush and floss twice per day and eat more crunchy vegetables such as raw carrots, apples and cauliflower which naturally clean teeth. Then give us a call at 818-224-2420 for a free exam and X-rays. This free exam and X-rays is worth several hundred dollars alone, but what we can discover about your present state of oral health is often worth much more than that.

When you come into our office for a free exam and X-rays we’ll be able to judge how your teeth and gums are currently functioning. We’ll also be able to ask you questions and you’ll have the opportunity to let us know if you are experiencing any unusual symptoms. You can also get your teeth cleaned at this visit. During this procedure we will remove tartar so your teeth can be free of the buildup that may have accumulated between visits to the dentist. We’ll use this time and the examination time to look at each tooth individually and mark down any areas for concern. How the teeth function together will also be examined. All of this information allows us to build a profile of your current state of oral health. We will then discuss with you some options to help whiten your teeth, re-align your teeth, fill cavities, repair damaged teeth or replace missing teeth (including cosmetic dentistry and dental implants).

If you’re still wondering what dental health has to do with overall health, you’re not alone. Most people think that cavities, extractions or maybe gingivitis are the worst problems they’ll have to face and even these won’t affect their overall health. Actually some of these issues, if left untreated, can develop into serious problems that can lead to bacteria entering the bloodstream. Cardiac problems and stroke are just two of the serious issues that are connected to poor oral health.

Some people skip the twice per year dental cleanings and exams and only come to the dentist when they have a bad tooth. This is not recommended, and our office wants to get you on the road to great oral health with a free exam and X-rays. We serve Calabasas, Agoura Hills, West Lake Village, West Hills and Woodland Hills. Please give us a call at 818-224-2420.
